Friday night Barb had a bon voyage party for Jeff and us. Joan and the Topps were there, so it was a night of laughing and storytelling.
Joan did some great apps, little scoop chips filled with cream cheese, artichoke hearts, a little jalapeno, and topped with a bit of shrimp. She also had a cheese platter. Then Barb did that salad thing again, everyone got a bit of salad and then you got to pick your toppings (roasted bell peppers, artichoke hearts, crab, olives, marinated onions and something else that escapes my memory at the moment). The entrée was Beef Bourguignon, with roasted potatoes and we had a Tres Leche cake that was out of this world. We got home around ten and I happily fell into bed and didn’t move until 4:30 this morning. That was just what I needed. Had happy dreams and woke up feeling pretty good.
We headed over to the marina and had breakfast at Bob’s our favorite spot for such things. Then it was some fast shopping at S-Mart and back home to start the arduous task of packing. Except that neither of us really wanted to. Shannon, the pet sitter, called and we spent an hour with her just walking her through things. She’s worked for us before, but never with five cats. It also gave her some time to be with the cats again.
Then we decided that it might be time for a nap. TBG had a nice long one. I got about forty minutes in between his snoring and the cats, it just became easier to get up and handle some of my LJ stuff. I’m glad because if I hadn’t, I would have missed a call from Jkkitty, wishing us a bon voyage.
The afternoon was, finally, spent packing stuff up. TBG had to unpack and repack the hard-side suitcase. He was surprised to discover not one but three three-bottle protection packs. Nine bottles in all. Not that I’m bringing that many along, but it’s nice to know we have the packing. That will mean that I won’t have to carry any bottles on at all – yay!
For dinner, I made one of our favorite meals – pasta with sausage, zucchinis and peppers. That pretty much emptied out the crisper. We have just enough for salad now. We finished off the rest of the Tres Leche cake while watching Chef.
Today is another day of packing and getting things around. The weather is on tap for being as cold and icky as yesterday’s was. We barely made it to 60 F. Today is even cloudier and less friendly looking.
And now, some photos!
