Made biscuits and gravy for breakfast – the Big Guy was in Sausage Heaven and Sparky seemed to enjoy them as well. After that, I put the tri tip on the marinate (Big Island Tri Tip) and put the sweet potatoes on the boil (for sweet potato salad). We headed upstairs to quickly check something on the computer, which of course led to something else, then something else… Do you smell something burn… the potatoes!” Yup, it was ugly and stinky.
While we aired out the downstairs, we watch David M on The Big TNT show – Sparky likes the way his butt dances when he conducts. I enjoyed watch him get lost in the music if only for a few seconds. Then we started on Spirited Away. We got about a third of the way through and the Big Guy called to say contractors were coming to repair the broken key pad to the main door and it would take about an hour. He would meet us at the restaurant.
That was our cue to get our stuff together and go in search of some more sweet potatoes. First we hit BevMo. Apparently, Sparky has a real ginger addiction and she waxed poetic over the selection in BevMo before settling on two different kinds. She also picked up some moscato and I some white wine. Then it was to Trader Joe’s and I picked up some Brussels sprouts to go with the steak and salad. No sweet potatoes, just yams and not what I wanted.
So then it was off to Safeway. Sparky was amused that all the checkers knew me and asked where the Big Guy was. I reassured them that we would return tomorrow. And onto the Dim Sum restaurant! It had been Sparky’s request that we have some (a new culinary experience for her) while she was here. The China Dynasty serves it every day and we had a great selection from the baked sweet pork buns to the cilantro dumplings to the egg custard. The only thing that was totally fabulous were the shrimp stuffed peppers – we didn’t realize that the peppers were jalapenos, not regular green peppers. Tasty but hot!
It was back home to watch the rest of the movie and boil the new batch of potatoes. After the movie, I put the salad together and Sparky went upstairs with the Big Guy to get something printed off her e mail account and to work on the Kindle. I joined them and caught up with my e mail and messages.
Then it was back downstairs to shoo Tigger (a local cat who has adopted us, much as Titan did) out the back door and watch the news while I got dinner underway. For our dining enjoyment, we watched The Lost Skeleton of Caldavra – a truly horrible sci fic movie (horrible on purpose). It was such a hoot. Dinner was fabulous, the movie was ridiculous, and laughs were plenty.
The Big Guy took Sparky back to her hotel and I was down for the count. It was such a fabulous day and Sparky just slips into the stream of things around here to become part of the family. Slept like a log and had sweet dreams of our adventures for Saturday – The Winchester Mystery House or Bust!
