It was lovely to see The Boy's mum after all this time (the last time was 14 years ago). She is still as vital and a live wire as always. She greeted us in English, while we greeted her in Japanese (I was relieved that my back permit a respectful bow). We had a great visit and she brought us two lovely gifts, a bamboo lacquer tray and a small kimono (actually made from a real vintage kimono - I have a photo of it). She thanked us again and again for being such good parents to The Boy. I'm just thrilled that we have been able to meet her.
We visited and talked for a couple of hours before it was time to go to dinner, which was okay, but no great shakes. The sake was good, but my back did not like the chairs, something it told me mightily when I woke up this morning.
The evening ended with us promising to visit her in Tokyo next year, something that The Boy and SO are going to hold us to. Finally, after all these years, I will get to Tokyo! Been to Japan three times, but never made it to Tokyo and *yay* Studio Ghibli!
What a fabulous night. yes, I have photos, but they are home and will need to be uploaded later. Bear with me. I'm taking this afternoon off if all goes well.
Stay safe, everyone!
