Went to dinner last night at a new restaurant, Bella Vista, in downtown Stockton. It used to be a Paragary property, which he hoodwinked the City of Stockton into practically building for him. It failed within a year. Then it became French 25, a Creole French restaurant. I liked it, but it was so loud, you couldn't even hear yourself think, literally. It struggled and failed after three years. Now, Bella Vista is giving it a go. Fingers crossed that third time is the charm.
First out of the gate, TBG went to park the car. Barb and I entered and the music was blaring. We were shown to a table by the kitchen - okay so we could watch inside the kitchen if we wanted. Not bad. I asked the hostess is the music could be turned down. She promised to ask. I was expecting nothing, but within a minute, the music was down to a whisper.
It was a soft opening, so we didn't expect everything to go perfectly. TBG's minestrone soup arrive cold. They took his cup away, brought him a bowl (no charge) at the perfect temperature. We had to wait a bit too long for the bill and they never brought us bread until after we were asked if we wanted more, but those were my only complaints.
The food was fabulous, the pasta perfectly cooked and the sauces very flavorful. We started with a fried calamari app - light and tender, then soup/salad (I had a Caesar with kale along with romaine lettuce). For entrees, Barb had half rigatoni in a parmesan fondue with a soft boiled egg on top. that was mixed into the sauce and was heavenly. I had a spicy penne dish and TBG had spinach and sausage ravioli. We finished with a strawberry tiramisu.
TBG also had a drink called a heated ginger - gin, ginger syrup, agave sweetener and jalapeno juice. Wow, it was hot!
All in all, it was a great meal and the price wasn't too bad, when you figured in drinks, and all the food.
Best of all, Barb was is a fabulous mood, like the old Barb funny and witty and boy, had I missed her. Yeah, it was a great night.
And after all this rain, we are still in a drought. Go figure...
