The day was not off to its most auspicious moment when I dropped a cat plate of wet food on the floor. That should have been my cue to go back to bed.
This week, I was instructed to go through Sceona's desk to find all the pay check stubs and update everyone's employee files (they hadn't been touched since last December when they took payroll away from me). This would have been easy if they'd been in one spot, but they weren't. It took me a half hour to find everything, as well as some stuff that had been missing (contracts, paid bills that had been questioned, all things that made me look really bad). Not cool. I pulled everything necessary, got stuff in order and then put it into Jay's desk, along with a key to Sceona's desk. Again, as instructed.
The next morning, there is no sign that anyone came in, but I did get a call later from Jay telling me to return everything to its proper place in the file cabinet. Okay, then I got a call from our janitor telling me that he couldn't work this weekend because of some ailment. Reality is that he is driving for Lift these days and probably has a better deal. However, I wished him well and then it was up to us... I cleaned the lobby, the patrons' bathrooms, concessions and mopped everything. Araceli vacuumed and Dennis did the auditorium that afternoon. Then I went backstage and cleaned the dressing rooms - actors are pigs, or at least ours are...
Surprise! Sceona shows up. She doesn't say much to either Araceli or myself, but sits down and starts texting. She fiddles about with her in box, answers more texts, writes a few checks, answers more texts and so on. After about 45 minutes, she takes her phone and goes into the back. I leave 15 later for lunch just as Dennis is arriving. "Where's Sceona?" "In the back on her phone." What happened next is a mystery, but apparently she ran some checks, tossed them onto my desk and went into the back again with her phone. Or so we thought. No, actually she'd left by a back door. What? Dennis was furious because she hadn't done some check he'd purposefully asked her to do.
And now it's time for Jay to call me again and she wanted to know when I was leaving on vacation, could I please make sure all the bills are paid, including stipends and that she would take care of the payroll... Hmmmm, this is interesting... I have a feeling Sceona will not be coming back from vacation. What a freaking mess...
Okay, so I come home and now it's time to start cooking for our dinner party. I get a call from TBG, saying that Rose is in the hospital recovering from surgery. When he asked Mike, he said, I'm respecting my wife's request for privacy... what? They've only been our friends from forty years and he tells us that? We were told we could call her after seven their time, so we do. What happened? Oh, it's that old problem again... could we be anymore vague> We don't know if her cancer has returned, if her implants went south, if it's something else entirely. Of course, they live in Orlando... nothing much is going on there this weekend... Just a major hurricane. No stress.
Thankfully, despite couple shouting sprees at the cats, everything went together okay. TBG came home and vacuumed. I tidied up and made sure our bathroom was clean. I was a little worried about Jim showing up, but he did. He has graduated to a cane and was moving slow, but he was moving. Barb followed about ten minutes later.
We started with some bleu cheese artichoke bites and scallion pancakes (both store bought), then TBG made a fresh Caesar salad and I followed with Chicken Scaloppini with Honey Ham and Asparagus. Dessert was a mango and raspberry crumble with raspberry sorbet. We poured a Prosecco and followed with a sauvignon blanc. The pictures I took were very random. The cats behaved themselves for the most part. It was a late night, but a good one.
This morning I am dragging like you wouldn't believe (or maybe you can) and my back is, as you would expect, not happy. Once I get TBG off to work, I am going to sit in a nice bath and soak. Then I have to go over to office to get some checks in the mail and take care of whatever I need to. This afternoon we (the two of us and Jeff) need to go out at four and pick up our travel documents for our upcoming trip and then we are going to dinner. I need to talk to Barb because I'd like to have a surprise party for TBG next weekend. Nothing too crazy, but I want Barb as a conspirator. Jeff and I will help him to celebrate it on the actual day, but I wanted to do something here for him as well.
So there you have it - the short version of my world. Now I think I'm going back to bed.
