Hopefully this is a sign of things to come, but we had such a fabulous trip to the island. We were picked up by the transport service that Jeff swears by. I have to admit, it is much nicer than fighting BART with our suitcases and trundling things through the airport. He picked us up at our door and dropped us out at check in.
The flight loaded a bit late, but our seats were comfy and that's huge when flying for four hours. I am keeping my fingers crossed that that will also be the case for the flight to Fiji. It's always a question when flying a new airline. This was also the fastest I've ever taken off from SFO. We taxied and were airborne almost immediately (or at least so it seemed).
As opposed to the trip we took with Sparky to the islands, the plane has a full entertainment package and I was able to catch up with some Bones episodes and nearly finished the applique on my next Raven square. Best of all, there was zero turbulence and the flight was smooth as silk
We got to our gate very quickly and walked to baggage. You have the option of walking it inside or out - out was nicer. The air was perfect and the trade winds made it comfortable walking.
The hike to the rental cars was just that - a hike, but honestly as after for five hours, it was a good thing. We got a Ford Explorer and boldly went out to fight the Honolulu traffic.
Our room at the Hawaiian Prince is lovely and comfortable. We settled in and went in search of some dinner in an attempt to sort of switch over our clocks (it was a three-hour time change).
The sushi place was packed, so we went up to the main dining room - it was booked until 8:45, although there was no one in it. We ended up eating in the bar, which was delightful. Jeff had a salad, TBG had a salad and a duck egg roll and I had a burger. My only two complaints is that is was cooked well (although still amazingly juicy and flavorful) and it was so big, I had to eat it with a knife and fork. It had melted Brie on it and my fries were 'dusted' with blue cheese. TBG ended up eating half and we all three worked on the fries, but still didn't finish them.
We headed back to our rooms, but ended up sitting by the pool for about an hour. The temperature was perfect and the winds cooling. We stayed until they started the music. Thankfully, even though we can see the pool from our room (27th floor), we couldn't hear the music. At eight there was a HUGE fireworks show. No idea what it was for, but it was quite spectacular. Maybe it was to welcome us here. :D Yeah, yeah, I know...
Now it's about four a.m. on Saturday. The WiFi is good, the coffee, strong and hot and it's all good. I think we are heading to the Bishop Museum this morning. We will have to see.
