The Friday Five for September 16, 2016

1. What are five good health habits for one to have?

2. Name any four things that you want to do before you die?

3. Name three songs to which you know all the lyrics?

4. What were you doing two hours ago?

5. If you could smash and break one thing and one thing only, what would it be?

1. Eating properly, exercising, getting enough sleep, de-stressing, and being able to laugh. Guess which one I manage.

2. Um, live? No, wait... visit the pyramids, return to Portmeirion, celebrate my fiftieth wedding anniversary, and retire My bucket list is small

3. Um, Science Fiction Double Feature (RHPS), I'm just a Girl Who Cain't Say No (Oklahoma), and Mamma Mia (or most ABBA songs - who'd think it?).

4. Sleeping or sleeping as much as you can with five cats all wanting to be fed.

5. The current state of angry and hostility that exists in the US. I'm so tired of all this killing and hatred.

the closing of a chapter

Last night my sister called me to tell me that she'd sold her house in Vermont. It was the last bit of Vermont connection we still had. The farm that her in-laws owned has been sold and the farmhouse destroyed. My heart ached when I heard this. Art and Marion were the closed thing to grandparents that I had. I built my "Vermont series" around that house and farm. Most that that, it has broken my last tie with my home state. don't get me wrong, there's no way I'd move back there, but now, I don't even have a reason to visit.

It got me to think about something else that made me feeling just a little hinky. When I was growing up, we had two cats. Minew was the first, a tabby with four white paws and tummy. We got Tuffy after we lost Minew. He was a long haired brown tabby. Now, suddenly I have a tabby with four white paws and tummy and long haired brown tabby. This may sound morbid, but I wonder if they are meant to be my last cats. If they live to be twenty, that would put me almost into my eighties. It's just weird, you know?

My thanks to my Beta, sparky955 and to kittenmommy. Nice try!

Steel drummed his fingers against his thigh as he plowed through the long grass. His step was heavy and deliberate, as if daring anything to try and stand in his way. Insects hurried to escape and any animals that might have taken refuge in the grasses and weeds slunk away to safety. The sun beat down, but failed to warm his mood. Just to be contrary, he dropped his inner core another degree. Let the sun do its worst, he would not be bested.

Where are we going, Sapphire?
“You’ll see.” Sapphire was the opposite. She walked slowly, letting her hands glide over the tips to the grass, tickling her palms. She smiled at the sensation and welcomed the heat of the day on her skin. The world was alive around them. Because of them, really, although no one knew or would know. It was not their place to be recognized for their actions. It was merely enough for all the wonder around them to continue.

What is our mission?

Boo!

What was the last time you were really scared or freaked out?

What happened (if you feel comfortable talking about it)?

Have you taken steps to keep it from happening again?
