Here are the years that walk between, bearing
Away the fiddles and the flutes, restoring
One who moves in the time between sleep and waking, wearing

At the sound of echoing footsteps, he glanced up and watched the figure move hesitantly, almost reluctantly, to a pew and sit, head bowed. Even from where he sat, he could see the shoulders heave in a sigh.

It finally became too much and he left the altar, pausing to genuflect before the crucifix and approached the stranger. Sorrow dripped off him like rain from a leaf.

“I will leave you, if that is your wish, but you seem to need a friendly ear.”

Red-rimmed eyes met his and he watched conflict playing in them. “What burden I have, Father, you can’t help with.” He leaned forward and rested his arms on the back of the pew.

This and that

I can happily say that they have finished painting in the back side of our building and the plastic is off the windows, to which we are very happy about. The swale still looks like heck, but at least we can see out again. This is important because yesterday they masked out the front windows. For most of the day yesterday, we were flying blind. They primed yesterday and said they would put on the final coat out there today. That means, if all goes well, we might soon be free of our scaffolding. Or not. You can never tell with these guys.

After missing Y Front for a week, he is back with us. No idea where he was, but he seems in no hurry of leaving at the moment. That made TBG happy.

We have been trying our hand at some new dishes. Wednesday was stuffed peppers (ala Nick Stellino). We had to make up the stuffing first and it made enough for our pork chops tonight and some stuffed tomatoes last night. I’m pretty done with this stuffing, though.

Had a call from Chef and he asked us to come over on the 17th to pang pots and pans together. That means we’ll start in the afternoon and cook together, then eat. We haven’t seen them since July 4th, so I’m ready.
