I started the day by finishing off another 12 Days of Fic - down to just three now :D and made my rum cakes. Boy, did that make the house smell good!
TBG got up around 6:30 and we headed out for breakfast, then our usual grocery shopping by 7:15. We were fed, shopped and surfeit with pee pads by 9. We stopped briefly at our storage shed to drop off a couple boxes of Duraflame logs and then it was back home. Now it gets busy!
By now, it was warming up and there was nothing to do but do it. We put up the lights in the back. Now you might wonder why that's such a deal. There are six trees, then tallest is nearly two stories high and wrapping lights around them can be a challenge. Unlike the previous year, we ran the electrical first. That seemed to be quite the time saver. By the time I returned from getting the mail and picking up some lunch, TBG had the first tree mostly done. For some reason, that one is always the hardest.
After eating, we did the next trees, also a challenge because of their proximity to a tree we refer to as the bird berry tree. Then it was the big one, also the tree right outside our back door. We had two 300-light strands and that didn't even cover it. We ended up adding another couple of shorter strands.
Let's be real, after that one, the rest were a piece o' cake. We had lots of curiosity peepers, but not a single person offered to help or give us some encouragement. Typical.
TBG decided we'd earned a rest at that point and he really had. He napped for a couple of hours and got up fresh as a daisy. What do we do now, Charlie?!? Please to note, I didn't get a two hour nap. TBG was making dinner that night, Beef Bourguignon, so he started on that while I talked with sparky955, then I helped him finish up. Afterwards, we went over to Home Depot to pick up a plant bottom (the poor Plumeria got frosted, so we had to bring it in, but Bête Noir loves to play in its dirt. We invert the plant bottom over the top of the pot).
Back home and it's COOKIE TIME! All three of my cookie recipes needed refrigerator time, so that was next on the agenda - Chocolate Stars, Cherry-Lemon Drops and Double Ginger cookies. TBG made noise about starting the fruit cake, too, but I was done in.
We got dinner on the table and then watched a seasonal collection of Shaun the Sheep - We Wish EWE a Merry Christmas. Honestly, by now I was done in. My back was very unhappy, so I headed for bed.
From what I gather from the notes left on the counter last night, TBG had a to-do with someone outside. I will have to get the details when he gets up. He spent much of the night hacking, until one a.m. when I finally made him take some medicine. Now he's sleeping like the dead... and I only feel that way. Hopefully, today there will be a nap...
