Had a fabulous talk with Rose yesterday. The whole 'putting back my stomach' comment was an allusion to some plastic surgery they were doing for breast reconstruction. They wouldn't be doing that if the outcome was bleak. She said that her hair was growing back and she was feeling better, although stuck in bed for two weeks while her abdominal muscles heal. She talked extensively about the cruise for 2019, so she is looking forward. It was a much happier and more positive conversation that before. Afterwards, we were both floating on air.
I spent much of yesterday researching the Orkney Islands and Portmeirion. We have visited both before, but only spent part of a day on the Orkney's. Now we want to spend a week, just exploring the various sites and relaxing. This would be our third trip back to Portmeirion and I am as excited as I was the first time we visited. I absolutely adore the feel of the place. We would also spend a week there, just exploring the countryside. TBG had me looking like crazy for a brochure he'd brought home because there was a particular room he wanted. It was fun to go through all our old travel stuff and play the 'Hey, remember when we...." game.
Technically this happen Friday night, but what the heck. We went out on our usual Friday night date and I was really craving a dish that Bella Vista makes. We don't go there a lot because it's hard to get to, being downtown, and there's no parking close by. Got there and we were one of three tables for two filled. Not a good sign, however, the last time we were there, we were the only table. Looking over the menu, I was disappointed that they'd taken my favorite dish off the menu. We ordered drinks: TBG, a Tom Collins, and me a house cab. The waitress came for our order and really pushed the special. I asked about the dish and she said she'd ask the chef if she could swing it. TBG ended up with the veal picatta. I ordered a Caesar salad and he got soup. For apps, we order a prosciutto plate to share.
Now started the fun. Our drinks arrived after we inquired about them - now remember, only two other tables and both are two tops) and TBG's Tom Collins wasn't. He took it to the bar and they confessed that they didn't have Collins mix and faked it (poorly). My wine was just barely drinkable. But, like TBG I didn't want to cause a scene so we managed. The app showed up four pieces of prosciutto and a sprinkling of greens. Okay, not what I was expecting as an app. However, it arrived with good news. The chef would make my favorite dish for me. *Yay* The soup and salad arrive at the same time as the app ("Yeah, it all came up together"). TBG said his soup was good, but my Caesar had every lettuce known to man except Romaine, the only lettuce it's supposed to contain. Okay, I know there's been a listeria scare with Romaine, but they should have said something. Our entrees arrive and I'm dismayed that my lovely plate of pasta and parmesan sauce had a hard boiled egg in the middle of it. The egg is supposed to be soft boiled, so you can mix it with the sauce. that's what makes it so good. I asked for another glass of wine, but a chianti this time. I got the same wine as the first time and had to ask for it twice. And for all of this, it was over $100. Come on, now. I don't mind paying that for a nice meal, but this wasn't it. Sadly, I can now see why the tables are empty.
Finally, we decided it was time to attack the upstairs rug with the rug cleaner. The cleaning itself went okay, but the ugly part came when it was time to clean the machine. It takes longer to clean the machine than it did to do the floor. They never show this part when advertising the thing, although granted most people probably don't have two long-haired cats. At least it's over with for the time being and nothing smells like cat urine. Here's hoping it lasts, especially considering what my kitchen looked like afterwards. What a mess.
Fast forward a few hours and I'm getting ready to roast a chicken for dinner. Open up the bag and this stench of sulfur rolled out. OMG, it was awful. TBG told me to put it back in the bag and he took it back to TJ's where we'd bought it that morning. they cheerfully replaced it, but I had to open up the house and turn fans on to get rid of the smell. Ick!
Oh, Barb is much recovered and they are spending two days exploring the Taj Mahal! She thanks you all for your kind thoughts.
Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!
