Dinner was very tasty. We started with Yu Quok(a sort of deep fried pork dumpling) and eggs rolls. Then we moved onto something called Phoenix and Poseidon (shrimp and boneless chicken wings), Pioneer Beef (thin slices of beef and cucumber), green beans with garlic and chilies, and steamed rice, with some of Frank's famous banana cream pie for dessert.
Then it was time to make our way to the Convention Center for the show. We were up in the first tier and I was saddened by how poorly it was attended, but it was going head-to-head with the Olympics, a basketball game, and the usual Saturday night stuff.
The band was okay. The lead singer was pretty chatty. I would have preferred more songs and less chatter. I honestly don't think they were any better than our band and their sound was tinny, but that could just be poor mixing on the convention center's side. The lighting was stagnant and not very imaginative. They also chose to play some less popular pieces (even for me!), but they hit most the big ones.
Towards intermission, I was starting to feel a little gassy, but with all the noise, no one could hear me tooting (they were the noisy, but not smelly kind). By the middle of the second set, I was experience some gastric distress. While TBG got the car, I spent some quality time in the bathroom. Then it was a dash home, with only two very necessary stops. Whatever it was seems to have passed (no pun intended) this morning, but I sure didn't sleep well and my back is killing me today. I suspect it will be a quiet day
On a whole it was an okay concert. The music was good, we had great seat mates, along with a group of very rowdy, over-served people in the back row. Thankfully, the music drowned them out most of the time. And it was fun to hear some very familiar songs played by a full orchestra. I wouldn't go out of my way to see them again, but once was fun.
