As much as it sort of freaks Barb out, we had a potluck. We brought chicken and the grill (we also grilled sausage and corn). There was potato salad, tomato and goat cheese salad, bread, and the above mentioned grilled stuff, plus a mess of very tasty apps. Diane is deathly allergic to onions and garlic, so her choices were very limited, but I made sure there was chicken that was roasted without any seasons or that had touched anything with onions or garlic on it. She happily ate two pieces and took two more pieces home. I could not even imagine going through life like that. While Barb visited, Jay and I took care of the dishes and getting everything taken care of.
We got home and discovered that we’d had a power outage. It was too late to set anything but there really important clocks (alarm and Mr. Coffee timer). I suspect it was due to the heat. Someone really cranked up the heat on our area and we hit our projected 98 F (we were 71 three days earlier).
Today it will be 97 – thanks heavens we’re cooling off. :P By Wednesday, we are back down to the 70’s with a return to the 90’s for next weekend. I am hoping there will be a pool date in the near future.
The cats are not sharing the love. This morning I found Bête Noir not just in front of the fan, but nearly on it. This is not the weather for long-haired pusses. It might be time to take her to the groomers. We are brushing them all the time now.
This morning I went out to feed the outside cats and a fat old raccoon scooted out of our patio. Grey was looking at me like, “What gives with the ugly cat?” I sent the raccoon on its way before feeding them and made sure there wasn’t a repeat visit. At least I know why there’s no food left in the morning. I may have to start rethinking things.
And now it’s time for work… pardon me if I don’t cheer too loudly…
