Getting home, we discovered a message from Jeff inviting us to swim on Sunday and Barb asking if we wanted to go out to dinner on Monday (to celebrate Joan's birthday). Of course, the answer was yes to both questions. We had planned to invite Jeff to dinner Sunday, so I'm taking our entrée to him. It is pasta in a roasted walnut sauce. I'm going to toss some chicken into it to make a complete meal. Jeff is going to do a salad and dessert. I'm going to make it this afternoon, so that I can punt if it doesn't come out to my liking.
Yesterday it was very hot very early, so we were out the door by seven and hit Wally World. We do this trip once a month to load up on cat food and the sweet water TBG likes. We also went to TJ's and Podesto's and hit the storage shed before heading home. We were back by 9:05. And it was already hot. The rest of the day was spent inside. There were a couple of naps and I did cornbread baked on top of the rest of the chili for lunch.
Afterwards, I dug out some old quilting patterns. In 2010, I'd given the GD a quilt composed of various 'happy cat' designs. She mentioned last week that she still slept with it on her bed, so I decided that a couple accompanying pillows would make a nice addition to it, so I tracked down the patterns and picked two (one with money, as she is a business manager now and one with a musical instrument for her artistic side - she plays the viola). Then it was finding the right material. Of course, I had help...
After that, I prepped dinner. We were having rib steaks, Tuscan potatoes and peppers (wrapped in foil) and asparagus, all on the grill. Got everything ready and no grill... TBG took the propane tank back, but it was fine. Then he took the connecting hose and regulator back, but it was fine... We ended up roasting the veg in the oven, cooking the steaks on a black iron skillet and nuking the asparagus. It all came out fine, but dinner was a little late. We soothed our spirit with 'Castle in the Sky' - made more interesting by turning on the captioning. It often has little to do with the actual dialog. It's interesting to see just how different at times.
Now it's Sunday with a projected 104 F ahead. It's just 6:30 a.m and nearly time to close up the house. I hope you all have a happy and cool day ahead.
