This has been a sort of stressful week because I was afraid we were going to have to cull the herd and find new homes for the two youngest, Patachou and Bête Noir. The inappropriate urination had become a problem and then someone decided pooping on the floor was a good idea, too.
Needless to say, I was in tears most of Tuesday, although it helped to talk with sparky955 and grey853. I called the place that took Minnie, but they never returned my call.
I added yet another box, this one downstairs and things improved a little. We also decided that it was time to bite the bullet and get a permanent pet door for our sliding glass door. (That arrives tomorrow). Letting them have in and out access during the day has helped, too, but they were still using all the mats.
Then I called Shannon to ask her to pet sit and she turned me done, saying she was too busy. So I called Barb V. She came over on Friday and I poured out my heart to her, asking if she could take the two so I could see who was doing what. She said part of the problem was that I wasn't cleaning properly. She recommended bleach in a spray bottle. Spray it on and wipe it off. Use it on the walls, furniture, anything that I thought might be stained. Then she volunteered to clean the house herself to keep me from surrendering Patachou and Bête Noir. I declined and spend Friday afternoon on my hands and knees cleaning.
Well, talk about day and night. The mat usage is down to next to nothing and the box is being used. No more pooping and things seem much more calm. Best of all, there is no longer and nasty smells anywhere as it works outside, too. TBG said he was praying to Bast for a miracle and that Barb V. was that. I have a feeling she will be my pet sitter from here on out.
Then last night Jeff came to dinner, so TBG decided to hang lights. "Oh, and wouldn't it be nice if we could use one of our holiday baking treats as dessert?" "Oh and let's have Delmonico potatoes!" and "Oh, let's rearrange the universe!" Well, maybe not the last one, but that's how I felt come about four o'clock when I needed to start cooking for dinner. Then TBG asked me to come out and help with something. He was hanging lights in the cedar out front. Nice, but as he was walking out, he tripped and went head over teakettle. Nothing was broken, but I'm betting he'll be plenty sore today.
Anyhow, he finished up outside about four and then cleared off the table (which had been piled high with Xerox boxes and lighting stuff). Happily, everything was out for it to be set, so we did that. Then he helped me with my mise en place for the potatoes and the hot spinach salad.
We started with chicken yakatori, the hot spinach salad and homemade cheese straws, then chicken scaloppini with ham and asparagus and the Delmonico potatoes. Dessert was individual rum cakes with ice cream and some berries. Everything came out great and then we sat down to look at trip photos. The fire was going, I'd had some wine, Titan climbed up in my lap and Pye climb up in Jeff's... yeah, I fell asleep. It was a little embarrassing. I roused myself for dessert (of course) and started to nod off again. That's when Jeff thought it might be pass my bedtime (it was 9:30, which is very late when you get up at three a.m.). Then, bless TBG, he sent me to bed and cleaned up himself. He even put a midnight treat down for the guys so they wouldn't wake me up early. What a great guy!
Anyhow, THAT's why I haven't been around a lot the last couple of days. I want to do nothing today. TBG wants to go shopping. I wonder which one of us will win.
