Inside there was Prosecco, bird nests, drunken shrimp and shu mei (all from Trader Joe's) awaiting us. Cards and gifts were exchanged and we had a nice chat by the fireplace, something we needed because it was cold (for us) out.
We headed over to the restaurant and it was packed. Jeff had called in our order previously, so we thought it wouldn't be a problem. It was. There were two servers and they were running like crazy. We sat down at 6:30 and were served at 7:22. It wasn't just us. The tables beside us both complained about the time spent waiting as well. Because everything was so full, I didn't take any photos inside the restaurant.
Happily, it was worth the wait and we had sort of stuffed ourselves on apps, so it wasn't too bad. First out was some deep fried eggplant tempura. That was followed with chicken and mushrooms over crispy noodles. Then the guest of honor arrived a whole fish, deep fried golden brown and delicious and lastly Tofu and pea shoots(pea sprouts and leaves) with enoki mushrooms. There was plenty of tea and water to wash everything down. I need to remember to pick up some pea sprouts this weekend from Angkor. I'd forgotten how good they are.
We bundled up and headed home, stuffed and feel very full of New Year's hopes and dreams. It was a fun night. Best of all was spending it with loved ones.
