Day 17 - a family
So many of Ghibli's families are broken in some way, but I would pick the family from Whisper of the Heart
Seiya Tsukishima works as a librarian, Asako Tsukishima is a grad student going for her degree, and mother to two girls, the oldest(Shiho)is responsible, hard working, and sensible and the youngest daughter (Shizuku) is a dreamer, a believer in fairy tales and happy endings. She loves to write and read. It's through her reading and the intervention of a white cat called Moon that she meets Seiji Amasawa, a fellow student at her school and an aspiring violin maker.
When Seiji leaves for Cremona, Italy, to test himself as a violin maker apprentice, Shizuku decides to test herself and write a novel about Baron Humbert von Gikkingen, a cat statue owned by Seiji's grandfather. While her sister gives her nothing but grief about her decision, her mother and father are both understanding and supportive, letting her know that no matter what, she won't fall or fail. During her attempt, she learns more about herself and what she wants to do with her future.
It's nothing earth shattering, but it's a nice film and one that any writer can appreciate.
