It was nice to see Araceli back yesterday and it was even nicer that I didn't make any major screw ups. I did my best and worked my butt off, but I was a little hurt when she handed me a box of empanadas and said, "Here, this is for you, but mostly for TBG." Boy, did I feel appreciated or am I being really petty.
Last night Jeff called to say good-bye. He flies out in an hour to Costa Rica with Barb and her niece (who is getting the trip all-expenses paid. Wish I'd had an aunt like that). I think he'd starting to regret going. He wasn't happy about having to pack rain gear, boots, Deet, etc. He intimated that he wishes he was going with us and not Barb.
We then called Barb to wish her a Bon Voyage and she was mean and just down right rude to TBG. His feelings were really hurt and when he asked me about it, I told him that that's how she treats me most of the time. Honestly, the only reason we are still friends is because of TBG and his respect for Rod.
Enough of this wallowing, though, they are as they are and they are now gone until the 5th of July. We have started working on stuff for the bunkhouse. My poor dining room is a mess of plastic tubs. I have my shopping list put together for stuff I need to pre-make here and stuff to pick up in Pollock Pines before heading up the hill.
TBG did something he hasn't done in years. On Sunday, he bought me a dozen roses. He was in Trader Joes and they were playing Santa Catalina and it reminded him of our honeymoon. I was gobsmacked.
Our heat has peaked and now it's cooling to 98 today and heading down from there. I don't mind at all.
Today I need to get an answer from my contact at Macaroni Grill. Are they closing the restaurant and how is that impacting our Speakeasy agreement (they are catering)? That's the fifth big restaurant to pull up stakes since June 1st. Maybe they know something we don't.
