There's just something about a flashing red light

So, yesterday I was picking TBG up after work because we had to go over to Bank of America and prove that I was who I said I was to them (and only after 39 years). I turned onto his street and was struck by all the cop cars with lights flashing all parked in front of his building... and there were cops running around with rifles. That's interesting... there was no place to pack, so I drove around the side of the building to park and there are more cop cars, more flashing, and more armed cops, all looking at me. I parked and called TBG - no answer. I tried his cell - no answer. Hmmm, this isn't good.

I decided to circle the block and try again. Slowly I maneuvered through all the cop cars parked at the back of the building (and in their alleyway) until I get back to Sierra, then I turn again onto Hunter. By then it looks like stuff is breaking up. I pull over to ask a bunch of cops what's going on and see TBG coming from the building. Talk about a sight for sore eyes.

Apparently, a parole had escaped custody and had taken refuge in an area TBG calls the secret garden, a bit of greenery and a lunch table for the AT&T employees of which there are five in a seven-story building. Anyhow, all the cops were there to capture him, but couldn't get in. Then TBG came out to wait for me and they asked him if he could get them into the building.

He did and they were able to recapture the man, who was sliced to ribbons from the tactical barbed wire he crawled over. Apparently, on top of everything else, he was higher than a kite, at least according to what TBG overhead.

But for a moment there, everything else didn't seem very important in my life, not until I saw that TBG was okay. Life's a funny old thing.
