2. T. butter or olive oil
¼ c sliced almonds
1 pd. ground beef (or pork, chicken, turkey or tofu)
1 small onion
½ c. tomato paste
½ c. chili sauce
½ c. water
¼ c. raisins
½ t. cinnamon
½ t. cumin
Pita bread (your choice of flavor)
Monterrey Jack cheese, shredded
Anything else that suits your fancy
In a large skillet, melt butter and stir fry the almonds until golden. Remove almonds with a slotted spoon and set aside. In the same skillet, sauté meat and onions until brown. Add tomato paste, chili sauce, water, raisins, cinnamon, cumin, salt, and pepper (to taste). Cook the mixture 5 min and then add almonds.
To serve, cut the pita bread in half and fill the pocket with the mixture. Garnish as you like.
