San Francisco Day Two

It was a groggy start to the day. I never sleep well the first night in a hotel room and the reception seemed to go on forever. Thankfully, there was coffee in the room and that helped.

After breakfast in the ‘coffee shop’ we went back up to the room and caught up on a bit of our sleep… at least until the jack hammers started. At the point, we knew it was time to start our day in earnest. Except we didn’t really have any plan. We we’d originally talked with The Boy, he hadn’t thought about all the stuff that would go into selling a house (his first time). It was a bit more than he expected, so he’s buried.

Anyhow, we decided to head over to Japantown for the morning. All our favorite stores were still open and it was fun to peruse all the Studio Ghibli stuff that the bookstore had. I picked up a couple of gifts for TBG and some note paper cards for me. We mostly window shopped, although I did find a store that carried Godzilla merchandise and ended up with a Godzilla tee shirt and a Godzilla noren. It made me happy (I’m wearing it now and it’s very comfy).

We had lunch at a little restaurant there. Our usual one hadn’t opened yet, so we tried the one next door. I’m not sure if it’s how it is always done, but they bring you a menu and an order card, a little like dim sum. I had a bento box with sushi and tempura. TBG had a maguro (tuna) rice bowl and some potstickers. It was very yummy and a nice change from our Japanese restaurants.
We shopped a bit more and then headed back to the room with our treasures. We spent a bit of time just napping and watching TV. I have discovered that I don’t miss cable TV at all. I ended up watching the end of one of the Guardian of the Universe movies (the one Stark dies in) while TBG worked on his computer for a bit.

Then TBG thought it would be nice to head over to Sausalito, just over the Golden Gate Bridge a bit early to find the restaurant. That’s when we realized our phone was about to die. . We switched off the phone once we found the restaurant to save the battery. Sadly, that meant no more photographs, not even from the Golden Gate Bridge as the fog was rolling in.

We then drove around the Marin Headlands, sitting and watching the waves crash, along with the surfers. Lots of gorgeous scenery and me with no camera. I told TBG we need to get a charger for the car and just stick it in the glove box. We parked on the Memorial Sparky Beach (we took her there when she came to visit) and just enjoyed the quiet. There is something so healing about the ocean.

We headed back to the restaurant (thankfully TBG had a great memory for such things) and got there just before the guys did. This is one of the best seafood restaurants we’ve been to in or around the City, so it was a thrill and The Boy got us a table at water’s edge. There was a heater, but the night was pretty mild one the wind settled down.

We started with a fresh crab and spinach fondue and some deep fried calamari. TBG had sand dabs, which he loves, but there’s not much too them. I had fish and chips (they come with politos – roasted creamery potatoes that have been boiled, then slight crushed drizzled with butter and roasted. They, alone, are worth a trip to the restaurant. The guys, since they are locals, knew things about the menu that we didn’t. J had a French dip with prime rib, The Boy had the same, but with chicken.

Thankfully, The Boy had a charger in his car and juiced ours up while we had dinner. At least it was enough to get us back to the hotel. Talk about a lesson in being dependent upon our phone. I was really sad that we lost out on a bunch of great photos, but it will be a lesson to recharge the phone more often. Anyhow, we sat and talked for what seemed like forever, but as it was a Monday night, the place wasn’t busy. We headed back to the hotel and a blissfully quiet room.

What a great trip!
