The World according to Spikes

Haven’t done a real post for a bit, so here goes, but first will someone please tell me what happened to September?? I can’t believe the month is nearly over.

We have been playing catch up since getting back from San Francisco. I had a myriad of doctor appointments, bloodwork for my liver to make sure the anti-inflammatories are playing nice, and my six month cleaning at the dentist. Good news is that everything is good.

One revelation is that I had a mammogram done with a new machine – designed by a woman (that’s what I’m talking ‘bout) with a curved plate. No longer squashing, only slightly as unpleasant as the old way. Sadly part is that there are only ten machines like this in the state, but thankfully, Valley MRI has one. My technician was Catherine Tate. Yes, really, really, that’s her name. She said she caused quite the stir when she visited London. She isn’t a Doctor Who fan, but said she might have to check it out because the machine looks a bit like K-9. Got a clean bill from them, so happy ta-tas.

Bloodwork showed that my liver enzymes had dropped from 85 to 34, I’m thinking it’s because I gave up on the hormones and am using an OTC treatment instead for the burning/dryness (you guys are so freaking luck). My cholesterol had dropped, my glucose was fine and I wasn’t anemic. I’m counting all of that as a huge win/win.

Wish it meant better news for my leg, but nothing is 100%. When I see my back surgeon in December for my bi-annual checkup, I am going to ask him to refer me to a leg man. He thought it might be sciatica, but I’m having no back pain, just leg pain from the knee down (not arthritis, though). I figure if that’s the only thing wrong with me, I’m doing pretty well.

TBG had his birthday, same day as Sparky, and had a good time out with Jeff and Barb. She is running hot and cold – so much fun that night, just like in the old days. We avoided hot button topics, so that helped, too. Our vaccination rate is good and our infection rate is dropping. Restaurants and stores are coming back to life again. I feel like we might just be surviving this. I hope so.

Last night we celebrated a second time with Chef and Irene. The meal was lovely, but mostly it was the conversation we missed. I am hoping that now that the wedding is nearly here, things will quiet down. I am hoping that they will make it to our Halloween party – our first in five years. I’m so ready. We are inviting out neighbors, folks that we know are vaccinated and friends, same thing. It should be a hoot. At least I hope so.

The dollhouse is finished inside and out, so all that is left is the dressing (pictures will follow, I swear). We still aren’t sure how we are going to display it, but perhaps we will strike upon something at Home Depot. TBG wants to buy some marigolds for outside. I’m hoping that they will last. It’s always hard to know how long they will stay in stock at the store. They tend to disappear overnight for Dia de los Muertos.

Our weather had cooled and Jeff is packing away his furniture for the winter – no more pool parties – alas. This week is going to have nights dipping into the 40’s, so it’s time. I need to get the cat house for the outside cats and I think we’re going to put up the second one we got after I put another door in it. Since we have a covered spot for it this winter, I’m hoping they will use it to stay dry (like we are getting any more rain than usual.

And that’s been my month in a nutshell. Onward to the craziness of October!

Stay safe, my friends.
