We had a really nice and rather quiet day yesterday. We started the day with biscuits and gravy and being thankful that we no longer have to go over the hill for Christmas. Even Placerville is getting nailed this time around. I'll take our rain over snow any day.

The days have been following a similar path, rain in the morning, drying and sunny weather for the midpart of the day, then in later afternoon, the rain comes back for the evening. I'd love to know how much we've gotten so far. They say that tonight's will be the worst yet. I need to exchange the blankets in the cat houses so they have something dry to sleep on.

Speaking of such, we seem to have picked up a new kitten, a little gray and white one marked just like Bullet and Rocket. I suspect they are from the last litter Meanie fathered before we had to have him put down. I wish he'd use one of the cat houses, but at least he keeps turning up for food. The folks on either side of me have cat houses and food out as well.

Barb joined up at 5:30 for dinner and we had a great evening. We ate ourselves silly, but drank more moderately. Even so, the mixture of champagne, wine, and marsala had me a bit bleary eyed this morning. We started with the app below (the only shots I took last night), then had French Onion soup, Steak Diane, Twice Baked potatoes, and roasted green beans with panko and parmesan cheese. Dessert was an absolutely fabulous panettone that Barb had been given. It was so light and airy. What a delicious finish to the day. We listened to music and enjoyed the fire while the cats made goody balls out of themselves. What a fun day!

You start with a necklace of fresh basil leaves

Then the tomatoes:

Then the mozzarella balls which were dusted with Italian seasoning, pepper, and some primo olive oil

We drizzled more olive oil around and the dipping sauce is a balsamic vinegar glaze.

It was ready for its close up, Mr. DeMille.
